The 1000D Suisse Normande Trail begins on the viaduct in Clécy, a small commune in Calvados, within Normandy’s Suisse Normande region. This trail-running event takes place in early November. Distances vary by edition but typically include shorter courses around 14 km and a 40 km trail with 1,150 m of elevation gain.
The routes traverse the hills locals call the “mountains of Normandy,” meaning the race emphasizes repeated ascents over flat speed. The event typically offers several race options: La Vallonnée is the shorter, faster choice; La Vaillante includes more distance and climbing; La Vertigineuse is the 40 km challenge; and La 1000 d’es équipiers allows teams to share the effort in a relay or pair format. Suisse Normande Tourisme and the Centre de Pleine Nature Lionel Terray organize the event, which appeals to club trail runners, those new to trail running after road races, and teams seeking a shared experience.
