La Montagne Verte

La Montagne Verte is a trail race held in Creuzier-le-Vieux, Allier, near Vichy. Participants gather in mid-November for a forest race known locally as Le geant vert, or The Green Giant. The primary offering is a 20 km trail course featuring 500 m of elevation gain. This distance is also available as a relay. The event maintains a modest scale, with a past edition attracting just over 100 runners, giving it the feel of a local off-road event rather than a large urban race. The name La Montagne Verte also refers to a district in southwest Strasbourg, formerly known as the Saint-Arbogast suburb, named after a convent established there in 1060 before its destruction.
