The Paris-Nice Challenge offers amateur cyclists the opportunity to ride the final-stage roads of the Paris-Nice race before the professionals arrive. This March randosportive is based in Nice, beginning at Quai des Etats-Unis and venturing into the hills behind the city. The typical long route covers approximately 127-131 km with more than 2,000 m of elevation gain. Some editions provide shorter and longer route options, allowing participants to choose their desired level of climbing.
The course features punchy, rolling terrain characteristic of the Paris-Nice final stage, with frequent climbs, rapid descents, and minimal flat sections for recovery. Competitive riders can aim for timed segments, stage results, and overall rankings, while the primary objective for most is completing the course within the security time limits. Extended routes might incorporate the Col de la Madone de Gorbio, extending the distance to around 150 km or more with nearly 3,000 m of elevation gain. The event's draw is straightforward: participants precede the professional peloton and commence the cycling season on an authentic Paris-Nice course instead of a standard sportive route.
