Pumpkin Run

Pumpkin Run events are fall races centered on Halloween-season pumpkin traditions. Formats vary from family-friendly 5Ks to the unusual Naked Pumpkin Run, where participants ran with carved pumpkins on their heads through town. These events have been held in locations including Detroit, Boulder, Seattle, Portland, Arcata, Hamilton, and Colchester, with some offering 5K, 10K, and 1K family distances. The Detroit race follows the Detroit Riverwalk and provides finishers with apple cider, a small pumpkin, a medal, a tech hoodie, and chip timing. Its Tough Pumpkin option requires participants to carry a pumpkin during the 5K. The Essex farm race circles fields, a pumpkin patch, and a corn maze on mostly flat, traffic-free paths. The Naked Pumpkin Run originated from a failed university world-record attempt, and later, police scrutiny led some runners to wear sufficient clothing to prevent arrest.
