At Inariyama, a hilly area within Hattori Ryokuchi Park in Toyonaka, Osaka, the Inariyama Mile challenges runners on a short course featuring actual climbs and descents rather than a flat track mile. Now in its fourth year, held in late August, it is presented as Kansai's first middle-distance race designed around elevation changes. The primary races cover 1.6 km, with a 16 km division for those seeking a longer run on similar terrain.
The event is organized by Running Entertainment LLC and caters to a broad audience beyond typical club competitions: divisions are available for competitive runners, general participants, novices, children, and parent-child teams. The organizer positions the elite race as a contest between track and trail runners, with a prize for the winner. The most unusual category is the Gyudon division, which includes a beef bowl with entry and is promoted as an "internal organ king" challenge: run, eat, and determine the best performer. Previous editions took place on the east side of Hattori Ryokuchi, starting near the former youth hostel, approximately a 15-minute walk from Ryokuchi-koen Station.
