The Osaka Yodogawa Night Marathon begins in the late afternoon at the Yodo River riverside park in Osaka. Runners start in daylight and finish as the city lights illuminate the surroundings. This is a loop race, not a point-to-point event, with each lap measuring 2.5 km. Race options include 5 km, 10 km, half marathon, and 30 km distances. The shorter races accommodate younger participants, starting from elementary school age for the 5 km and junior high school age for the 10 km. The half marathon and 30 km are open to high school students and older.
The flat riverside loop offers a straightforward course, though participants in longer distances will traverse it multiple times. Pacers are available for various target finish times, and summer support is integrated into the event, providing water, sponges, and encouragement from staff along the route. Feedback highlights two primary aspects: the transition from sunset to the night view, and the encouragement received from fellow runners and staff during laps. This series marks its 30th edition, featuring unique bibs, designated photo areas, diverse award categories, and the opportunity to earn a gold or silver completion certificate with a prize.
