This PSS Imperial Palace Health Running event is an affordable morning race held at the clock tower inside Sakuradamon, on the Imperial Palace loop in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Participants can select from 5 km, 10 km, 20 km, or a 20 km relay. Individual entries cost 1,000 yen, and the relay is 4,000 yen. The longer distances begin earlier than the 5 km and 10 km. The start and finish points are identical, simplifying the event's structure.
Manual timing with a stopwatch and printer is used, contributing to the event's small-scale, practice-race atmosphere rather than a large, chip-timed competition. The course involves multiple laps around the Imperial Palace, suitable for pace checks, practicing longer efforts, or a controlled run before a marathon. PSS Inc. describes it as Japan's most relaxed race: late arrivals are permitted, same-day registration is available, runners may switch distances on the day, and finishing early still counts towards the distance completed. Reviews note its low cost, ease of participation, and benefit for solo long-distance runners. Cutoff times apply to the 10 km and 20 km races, and the event may be canceled due to weather or other circumstances, with transfers offered instead of refunds. Participants receive a prize package including a sports drink and an izakaya meal voucher, with all participants eligible for awards.
