The Philippe Gilbert Cauberg Classic begins in Valkenburg aan de Geul, Zuid-Limburg, a Dutch area known for its hilly, classic-style cycling. This September event is a recreational ride, not a formal race, offering road and gravel routes with listed distances of 40, 80, 120, and 160 km. The ride structure is adaptable: touring loops are approximately 30 to 45 km, with an additional longer loop for those seeking a greater challenge. Participants can therefore create a course suited to their fitness and bicycle.
The Cauberg is the main climb, and the event honors Philippe Gilbert due to his significant victories on this ascent. Gilbert, a past world champion and four-time Amstel Gold Race victor, is nicknamed King of the Cauberg. Riders might encounter him during the event. The event is intended for cycling enthusiasts of all abilities, from casual participants to more accomplished amateurs. The roads and gravel paths of Zuid-Limburg provide the short climbs, varied surfaces, and classic cycling character.
