Frikarusellen is a six-race 5 km series held at Espeland idrettsplass in Arna, with evening starts at 19:00. Participants can register for the entire series or for single races. Start numbers are collected at Espelandshallen prior to the race. The course is a verified 5 km, with its measurement confirmed at the turn of the century and again later, establishing the current records based on this measured route.
The race begins north of Londalskrysset, proceeds to Gamle Haugesund station, and returns via the same path, concluding within Espeland idrettsplass. Refreshments are provided post-race. The competition has seen fast times: Marius Vedvik's record for the measured course is 14:20, and Eli Anne Dvergsdal's is 16:49.8. An interesting detail is that the former route was approximately 100 meters shorter, accounting for earlier record times by Karl Johan Rasmussen and Bente Landøy being faster than the current official marks.
