Trondheim Skogsmaraton begins and ends at Granåsen arena, located on the outskirts of Trondheim. The race directs runners into Bymarka for a forest trail event held in October. Participants can choose from distances including a 10.5 km quarter marathon, a half marathon, and a full 42 km marathon, all contested on natural terrain instead of paved roads. The event originated within Bedriftsidretten’s cross-country series and is currently managed by Midt-Norge Bedriftsidrettskrets.
The course navigates the hills and forests surrounding Bymarka, making it suitable for runners seeking uneven paths, an autumn woodland atmosphere, and a challenging finish over a flat city course. The event draws a substantial field for a regional trail race, with over 1,400 runners participating in a recent running. Its appeal is clear: Granåsen provides a convenient start and finish area, Bymarka offers the demanding terrain, and the variety of distances allows both shorter-distance runners and marathoners to compete within the same forest environment.
