Runners will complete laps of the KartSport Southland track on Pitt Road at Sandy Point, near Oreti Beach, starting at 2:00pm. The KartSport Challenge 5k & 2k combines a junior 2km race with an open 5km race. The 5km event also functions as the Southland 5km Championships for eligible club athletes.
Competitors in the Under 10 and Under 12 categories will run three laps of the kart track for the 2km distance. All other participants will cover eight laps for the 5km. Walkers are welcome, meaning the field can comprise juniors, recreational runners, club athletes aiming for a championship result, and families. The venue's lap format allows for easy viewing of participants multiple times.
