Trail do Serrote

The Trail do Serrote is a mountain trail race held in Vila Nova de Monsarros, located in central Portugal's Bairrada region. Both the start and finish lines are situated at Pavilhão de Val das Cavadas. The primary race covers approximately 19 to 20 km with an elevation gain of about 1,040 to 1,100 meters, presenting a short, steep challenge rather than a quick road race. Additionally, the event includes a 14 km mini-trail and a 12 km walk, catering to participants seeking the same terrain with varying levels of exertion. The course navigates natural trails winding through the serra, covering valleys, cliffs, elevated areas, rural villages, and low-lying fields. The organizers characterize the ascents as entirely natural and challenging, with the route emphasizing technical running alongside physical conditioning. This race is organized by the Associação Cultural e Desportiva de Vila Nova de Monsarros and is in its early stages, with the fifth edition scheduled. Recent course updates indicate a return to the mountains, retaining some established sections while incorporating new connections between them.
