The Cow Paddy Run playfully acknowledges its name, as the course has no actual cow paddies. This family running event in Fayetteville, Arkansas, offers a 1K Fun Run for young children at 9 a.m. and a 5K for adults and older children at 9:15 a.m. The Spark Foundation organizes the race, focusing on students, parents, and schools rather than competitive racing. Strollers are permitted, parents can run with their children, and all participants receive chip timing, a shirt, and a finisher’s medal.
The 5K route follows the paved loop at Gulley Park and the grass loop near Apple Seeds. The 1K route uses the paved loop around the gazebo and the grass loop near Apple Seeds. Volunteers and signage direct runners at turns, with a lead and sweep bike for the 5K, and an aid station positioned at the halfway point. The race does not offer overall or age-group awards. Instead, it provides monetary prizes for school participation: $2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second, and $500 for third, along with a $500 Mighty Moovers Award for smaller schools. A pay-your-age program for participants aged 5-12 and scholarships ensure the event remains accessible, with proceeds benefiting local physical education initiatives through The Spark Foundation.
