Ironhawk Juniors Triathlon Club offers a free summer program in Omaha for girls ages 7 to 14, with weekly Thursday evening workouts at the College of Saint Mary during June and July. It accommodates all experience levels; a girl can join even if she needs swim or bike lessons before race day. Registration is capped at 230 participants, and gear is supplied when cost would otherwise be a barrier, including swimsuits, bikes, helmets, and running shoes.
The summer concludes with a youth triathlon in late July. Girls ages 7 to 10 complete a 100-yard swim, 3-mile bike ride, and 0.75-mile run. Girls ages 11 to 14 complete a 200-yard swim, 6-mile bike ride, and 1.5-mile run. Practices include swimming, biking, running, team activities, snacks, and making friends, with the final race followed by a celebration. The club was founded to build confidence and empower girls. Its impact is evident: over 300 kids have learned to swim and/or ride a bike through the program, over 600 juniors have finished a triathlon, and hundreds of helmets, bikes, swimsuits, and shoes have been provided.
