Summit Mountain Challenge is a summer mountain bike series on the trails of Summit County, Colorado, featuring six Wednesday evening races from May through August. Riders can select long, short, or kids courses, accommodating serious racers, developing juniors, and those seeking a challenging midweek ride after work. The racing window is from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The format emphasizes consistency: participants aiming for the overall series win must compete in five of the six events within the same course category.
The courses utilize Summit County terrain, offering fast trail sections and significant climbs. The series concludes with the Breckenridge Classic. Breckenridge Recreation manages the event, having taken over from Jeff Wescott of Maverick Sports Promotions, continuing his commitment to affordable, well-organized local races that foster community. Given the high country environment, weather and trail conditions influence race scheduling; the race director may delay, cancel, or reschedule events. The series operates under a USDA Forest Service permit within White River National Forest.
