The Summit Mountain Challenge is a six-race summer mountain bike series on the trails of Summit County, Colorado. Races are held on Wednesday evenings from May through August, featuring long, short, and kids courses. Riders can select a distance appropriate for their age and ability. The series concludes with the Breckenridge Classic. The riding emphasizes fast trail sections, significant climbs, and a midweek effort suitable for local racers and visiting mountain bikers alike.
To qualify for overall series standings, riders must complete five of the six races on the same course type. Breckenridge Recreation now manages the series, having taken over from Jeff Wescott of Maverick Sports Promotions. The series maintains its focus on affordable, organized community racing. The routes are operated under a USDA Forest Service special use permit within the White River National Forest. Consequently, weather and trail conditions may necessitate changes; the race director reserves the right to delay, cancel, or reschedule events as needed for trail preservation.
