SwimRun Cape Cod is an October swim-run race held within the Cape Cod National Seashore. It is Southern New England's sole event of its type. Participants alternate between running and open-water swimming, deviating from the standard single swim and single run leg format. The race provides various distances: a long course covering approximately 18 miles of running and up to 3 miles of swimming across 8 to 9 bodies of water; a medium course with about 12 miles of running and 2 miles of swimming; and shorter options for those seeking a less extensive version of the format.
The course incorporates freshwater crossings within the National Seashore, requiring participants to transition between trails or roads and pond swims, rather than completing a single loop. Individuals can compete solo or as two-person teams, with teammates required to finish the entire course together. Run tethers are permitted but not mandatory. Swimmers use race-issued caps and must carry bright green safety buoys, with extra caps available near pond entrances. Mixed and single-sex teams are scored distinctly. The event is part of the My SwimRun Championship Series, offering a path to a world championship start for class winners or point scorers.
