The TCS New York City Marathon begins at the foot of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge on Staten Island and sends over 52,000 runners across New York City on the first Sunday of November. It is the world's largest marathon, with a field that includes top professionals, wheelchair racers, club runners, charity runners, and first-timers from over 140 countries.
The route moves from Staten Island through Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx before finishing in Manhattan, turning the race into a five-borough tour with over one million people watching from the streets. The event began with just 127 entrants and 55 finishers on a four-lap Central Park course, then later grew into the citywide race it is now; over 1.2 million people have finished it since the first running.
