The Buck Fifty is a 150-mile overnight relay based in and around Chillicothe, Ohio. Teams of five or ten runners share the distance. The first teams start on Friday afternoon, with additional teams departing every thirty minutes until the field is on the course. It is a Southern Ohio race focused on teamwork, not a single runner’s performance. The route is long enough that teams navigate daylight, darkness, handoffs, fatigue, and the logistics of moving runners between points.
The course passes through several local communities, crosses school campuses, and includes trail sections in four National and State Parks. The terrain is defined by its hills: runners are advised to train for peaks, valleys, and rolling Southern Ohio ground. The race supports a local cause, with all profits directed to teen drug prevention. It benefits eight area high school chapters of Drug Free Clubs of America, known as M.A.D.E. (My Attitude Determines Everything). These chapters typically enroll over half of their eligible students. Feedback from previous participants highlights consistent themes: dedicated volunteers, strong team bonds, and community support for the cause.
