The Hokkaido Challenge Marathon takes place at Aoba Athletic Stadium in Chitose, Hokkaido. This timed track event is held on a summer Sunday, utilizing the 400m stadium track on Shinmachi. The marathon is designed for a limited number of participants, approximately 100 to 499 runners. Entries are open to both Hokkaido residents and visitors, accommodating a range of participants from parent-child teams and elementary school students to adults aiming for a specific time.
The race format is straightforward: participants run laps on the 400m track in open lanes, with chip timing and potential group divisions determined by participant numbers and desired finish times. The schedule features a 1000m parent-child run, a 1000m race for elementary school students, and junior high events ranging from 1000m to 10000m. Junior high students and older participants have the option to enter multiple races. The meet accommodates various skill levels, including beginners, club runners, and faster athletes. All finishers are recognized with participation awards and additional benefits.
