Sobre esta carrera
The Goto Islands Sunset Marathon is a midsummer half marathon and 5 km race held in Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture, on Fukue Island, at the western edge of Kyushu. Participants begin at Goto Port Park, located in front of the Fukue Terminal Building. The race concept centers on running with Japan’s last sunset as a backdrop. It is one of the few road races in Japan that takes place in the heat of August, offering a distinct atmosphere compared to the typical spring and autumn race schedule.
The course winds through Fukue Island, which is part of Saikai National Park. The event attracts local residents, tourists, and individuals visiting home for the summer. Aid stations provide watermelon, and the finish area transforms into a local food hub, featuring tasting sessions for Goto beef and Goto pork. The organizers embrace the island's hospitality to such an extent that they openly welcome participants whose primary objective is the post-race meat tasting, rather than solely focusing on achieving a fast time.
