Sobre esta carrera
The GONTEX Futako Tamagawa Relay Marathon is a team relay event held near Futako Tamagawa on the Tama River. It utilizes the Tamagawa Green Space and the Seta Picnic Area on the Kawasaki side. Taking place in late March, regardless of weather, the marathon features a pair 10K relay and a 20K relay, instead of a solo marathon. The 10K pairs can consist of friends, spouses, couples, or parent-child teams. The 20K teams are composed of two to five runners. Individual runners can also join randomly formed teams on race day. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Kawasaki City Sports Promotion Fund, supporting local sports in Kawasaki.
The course consists of a flat 2 km out-and-back loop starting from the venue and extending to a turnaround point beneath the Third Keihin Tamagawa Bridge. Water stations and restrooms are available at both ends of the loop. Teams exchange a tasuki sash during their running turns, with the 20K anchor runner distinguished by a red tasuki for the final leg. This event is designed for beginners because of the short, straightforward loop, which also facilitates easy cheering from teammates on the riverbed. Participants are encouraged to wear club kits, original team outfits, or costumes, with specific awards for costumes. The top three teams in both relay categories will also receive prizes. Runners finish by passing through a flag-lined path, and professional photographers will offer free race photo data post-event.
