Murecker Au-Lauf

The Murecker Au-Lauf begins and ends on the main square in Mureck, a town situated by the Mur River. Participants can select a 5.4 km loop or a 10.8 km race, which covers the same loop twice. Walkers have a separate route of approximately 8.4 km. The event incorporates chip timing and children’s races, functioning as a community gathering rather than solely a competition for elite athletes. The course departs the main square, crossing a brief asphalt section past Buschenschank Kolleritsch towards the sports field before entering the Mureck floodplain. The majority of the loop utilizes established walking and hiking trails through the Au, proceeding along the Mur to the border crossing bridge. The route then reverses on a parallel path, returning via a mixed asphalt and gravel surface. Kilometer markers are visible, with aid stations located at the main square and near the Mur mill. This race has been conducted annually for several editions, drawing participation from school groups, teachers, children, runners, walkers, and attendees of the post-race gathering.
