Queensland Triathlon | Round 1 | Raby Bay

The Queensland Triathlon Series comes to Raby Bay Harbour Park in Cleveland on the Redlands Coast. The Pho3nix-backed series takes place from September to March, with events held at locations including Raby Bay, Moreton Bay, Robina, and Caloundra. The Raby Bay event attracts approximately 1,000 competitors. The Event Crew manages the series, and AusTriathlon provides sanctioning. The available race distances range from the 2.6 km Pho3nix Kids Triathlon to the 12.3 km Enticer, 19.4 km Super Sprint, and 31.8 km Club distance, which is open to all participants, not just club members. Relay teams allow friends to divide the swim, bike, and run segments, and the Mates Wave enables mixed-age and mixed-gender groups to compete together over the entire course.

Brisbane Trail Ultra

The Brisbane Trail Ultra program features a 160.5 km trail race with 7,580 metres of climbing. The series takes place in early July in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, offering six trail distances: 10.3 km, 20.2 km, 30.6 km, 61.7 km, 111.9 km, and 160.5 km. It is also a UTMB Index Race, allowing runners to use it for UTMB-related qualification and indexing. The shorter races include significant climbing: the 10.3 km has 290 metres of gain, the 20.2 km has 640 metres, and the 30.6 km has 820 metres. The longer ultras increase the challenge substantially, with 2,060 metres in the 61.7 km, 4,880 metres in the 111.9 km, and 7,580 metres in the 160.5 km Ultra 100 mile. The previous edition saw over 500 runners in the 100-mile race, more than 300 in both the 111.9 km and 61.7 km races, and over 200 in the 30.6 km, indicating a wide range of participants beyond a small ultra-specific group.

About cycling & running in Brisbane

Brisbane Training Notes

Running: Locals use the Brisbane River first, because the paths make easy base miles without much fuss. The River Run links QUT to New Farm for 5 kilometres with City Botanic Gardens and Howard Smith Wharves in the view. Kangaroo Point Cliffs gives you skyline laps, a 4 kilometre run to Story Bridge and back, and 107 cliff steps when intervals need bite. Mt Coot-tha Reserve has over 70 nature tracks, with the Summit Track covering 1.9 kilometres. Felons Run Club, Soso's Run Club, Run Society, Brisbane Girls Run Club, and Got The Runs keep the week social. Bridge to Brisbane and the Brisbane Marathon are the big anchors.

Cycling: Locals ride the river paths, the bay, and the hills west when the legs want work. The ride from Toowong to the Brisbane CBD is 8 kilometres, and the North Brisbane Bikeway links the northern suburbs back to town. The North Brisbane Bikeway runs 46 kilometres with 282 metres of elevation, while Mt Coot-tha adds the real climbing. The loop through the D'Aguilar Range covers 104 kilometres with 1,739 metres of elevation. The proper climbing sits around Mt Coot-tha, Mt Nebo, The Goat Track, South Boundary Road, Mt Glorious, and the D'Aguilar side. Brisbane Cycling Club and BNECC cover bunch rides, pace groups, and crit energy. Club Racing, Brisbane SX and Queensland Triathlon at Raby Bay sit on the calendar.

Season: May to September suits steady running and riding, because Brisbane winters stay mild and drier. October to April brings the hot, wet stretch, so locals start early, keep Z2 honest, and save the sharp stuff for shade, river breeze, or shorter loops. Summer makes Kedron Brook, Bulimba Creek, the Brisbane Riverwalk, and the bayside foreshore rides feel useful when you want rhythm without cooking yourself. Winter changes the mood for both sports, because long runs, gran fondo prep, gravel days, and singletrack sessions around Mt Coot-tha, Enoggera Reservoir, Daisy Hill Conservation Park, and Bellbird Grove all get easier to stack.
