Coombabah Lakes Conservation Area provides the setting for this run, featuring wetlands, marine park boundaries, and protected land where attention to your footing is natural. The Coombabah wetlands are part of the "internationally significant Southern Moreton Bay Marine Park" and are "registered in the Ramsar Convention on wetlands of international importance." This creates an atmosphere more akin to a quiet bush walk than a large-scale event.
The organisers aim to "keep the experience as pristine as possible," limiting entries and keeping participant numbers "as small and personal as possible." A new feature from this edition is a draw that will send one runner to the IPapatowai Challenge in Otago, including entry and weekend accommodation. This adds a sense of trail-running club camaraderie to the event, alongside the race itself.
