Dead Cow Gully Backyard Ultra 2026

SAT, May 30, 2026 · Wellcamp Gully , Australia

About this race

Dead Cow Gully Backyard Ultra takes runners around a working sixth-generation cattle property in Nanango, rural Queensland, with cattle present in the surrounding paddocks. It is a backyard ultra format: all runners start a 6.7 km loop on the hour, and anyone not finishing the loop before the next hour begins is eliminated. The race continues until only one runner remains, meaning the total distance is not fixed; it is determined by the field's endurance. The loop crosses stockyards, grasslands, dry gullies, gum trees, timbered ridges, and partially cleared creek flats. Each competitor receives a cattle tag to display at race HQ. Trophies are handmade from 80-year-old fence posts, complementing the property's setting more than polished hardware would. Complimentary camping contributes to the unadorned atmosphere. Participants range from dedicated backyard ultra specialists to runners seeing how long they can maintain the hourly repetition, with previous winners extending the race into multi-day events, achieving distances of hundreds of kilometres.
