About this race
The Elders Point to Pinnacle is a half marathon held in November in Hobart, Tasmania. It begins at Wrest Point Car Park and concludes at the summit of Mount Wellington. The race covers 21.1km, but its defining feature is the elevation gain: 1,271 metres from the suburbs along the Derwent River to the mountain's peak. Walkers start at 7:00 am, followed by runners at 8:00 am, with a cut-off time of 11:40 am for all participants. The Point to Pub, a 10km race for runners and walkers, also takes place on the same day, ending at the Fern Tree Tavern.
The half marathon route follows Sandy Bay Road, Byron Street, and Davey Street from Wrest Point. Davey Street transitions into Huon Road, leading to a right turn onto Pillinger Drive for the final ascent to Mount Wellington. Entry is limited to 3,200 participants for the half marathon and 1,600 for the 10km, offering a significant local challenge without the scale of a major city marathon. It is promoted as the world's toughest road half marathon, a claim supported by its continuous paved climb from Hobart to the mountain's summit. The event incorporates fundraising for causes such as melanoma research, Carrie's Beanies 4 Brain Cancer, and Movember.
