About this race
Starting from the Flinders Island Golf Club in Whitemark, this trail marathon features island dirt and a community atmosphere. The Flinders Island Running Festival is maintaining its newer events to "showcase more of our trails on the island," creating a runner-focused weekend rather than a commercial production. While families are involved, the marathon itself is distinctly outdoorsy, demanding respect for the wild country with required gear checks.
The course begins on a section of the Glow Run track, then proceeds through the Cattle Track, past the School, and descends toward the Lady Barron road. It continues into the Haulands trail before returning via Palana Road and the Bluff Track. Aid stations are located at practical island points, such as the Trousers Point Road turnoff, Memana Road, and Bluff Road turnoff. "Pink reflective markers will guide the way." A unique aspect is the Glow Run component: participants use lights on the course, head torches are advised, and runners are encouraged to apply glow-in-the-dark paint.
