The Ken Dinnerville & Barbara Wyles Handicap is an Illawarra road racing series that uses handicap starts, with riders departing in groups instead of simultaneously. The Ken Dinnerville Memorial Bike Race has been held since 1957, following the death of local cyclist Ken Dinnerville in a traffic accident. His uncle, Roy Cleary, initiated the race in his memory, and Ken’s aunt, Noelene Cleary, provided the prizes and trophies.
The event is a road race, not a criterium or track race. The men's competition features eight handicap groups, while the women's competition uses four to six groups. The Barbara Wyles Memorial Handicap offers a separate female-only race, a format seldom seen on the Australian racing calendar. It commemorates Barbara Wyles, a life member of the Illawarra Cycle Club, and runs concurrently with the established Ken Dinnerville race.
