About this race
The fourth Mad Max Marathon Running Festival launches from Broken Hill Racecourse, using the Gary Radford Pavilion as its hub for an authentic outback race day atmosphere. Runners travel from across Australia to participate, alongside a strong local contingent of children, adults, walkers, casual runners, and a few elite athletes, all sharing the same course and anticipation. The event embraces its identity as a "very different and slightly crazy event."
The course features a flat loop of the Broken Hill Racecourse parkrun, dirt paths alongside Racecourse Road, and the Silver City Highway for longer distances, concluding with a final lap of the racecourse. Rotary volunteers manage the water stations, participants receive an "iconic medal," and donations are encouraged for Maari Ma Health Aboriginal Corporation. Those enthusiastic about Mad Max can wear costumes and continue the theme at the Mad Max 2 Museum in Silverton, the unique Silverton Pub, and the Palace Hotel, known for "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert."
