About this race
The Ona Mission Multisport Adventure Race takes competitors from South Mission Beach across open tropical water to Dunk Island, then returns them to the mainland for additional running and riding. This is a long-course or short-course adventure race in Far North Queensland, focusing on paddling, trail running, and mountain biking rather than a single discipline. The Cassowary Coast Multisport Club organizes the event, which is open to solo racers and teams, accommodating novices, experienced adventure racers, and juniors aged 13 to 17.
The short course features two 4km paddles, 7km and 4km runs, and a 23km bike leg. The long course increases these to 8km and 4km paddles, 11km and 10km runs, and a 30km ride. Racers paddle to Dunk Island, run rainforest walking trails within World Heritage-listed forest, paddle back, and then ride beach, road, and rainforest tracks through the Cassowary Coast hinterland, finishing with a run along the beach and beachside forest trails. The location offers a genuine opportunity to see cassowaries and tropical birdlife, attracting participants from Townsville, Cairns, and beyond.
