Integral Energy Recreational Park is the base, with the race laid out on the NSW State Cross Country course at Kembla Grange. Red’s Backyard Ultra has the stripped-back feel of a proper backyard: runners, crew, personal aid stations, a clubhouse canteen, bathrooms, and a format that gets serious by subtraction. After strong 2023, 2024, and 2025 editions, the 2026 race carries extra weight as a Silver Ticket event.
The deal is simple and brutal: a loop every hour on the hour, until everyone but one runner has stopped. Early on it feels oddly communal, because rivals are also teammates, dragging each other through yard after yard; late on, when only two remain, it finally becomes a race. It is a “last one standing event,” but really a “race against yourself more than anyone else,” an “ultimate endurance test of the body, mind and soul.”
