About this race

SA Athletics Stadium is the whole world here: a certified 400-metre athletics track, lap after lap, with nowhere to hide and nowhere to coast. SA Track Ultra is built around “South Australia’s flattest ultra marathon experience,” a smooth, even surface with no elevation changes, which sounds kind until the repetition starts asking questions. It is a stripped-back format for beginners testing the water and ultra runners chasing clean pacing or records. The course is simple in the harshest useful way: keep turning, keep counting, keep eating. Aid every 400 metres is the great quirk, with crew, participants, facilities, and support coming around again before any problem has time to get far away. The recently refurbished track gives consistent footing, but the real work is mental; this is where you find out what “run an ultra on an utterly flat course” actually means.
