About this race
Starting from Kable Avenue, this event has the character of a long-standing local run that has secured its position on the annual calendar. Founded by three local residents, it ranks as the third oldest Fun Run in NSW and is described as a “much loved contribution to the lifestyle of North West NSW.” Its origins trace back to a course that commenced outside the Town Hall, proceeded down Peel Street, ascended into East Tamworth, and concluded at No. 1 Oval.
The event's nature seems genuinely crafted by runners: featuring a stretch of main street, a challenging hilly section, and a finish line at the oval, distinct from a polished expo. The participants range from young children completing the My First Fun Run to walkers, casual runners, and those competing in the longer races, creating a sense of collective community participation. A notable tradition from earlier years involved crossing the New England Highway three times, with police assistance to halt traffic. This evokes a sentiment of nostalgia for simpler times.
