About this race
The Burnie 10 is a 10 km road race held annually in Burnie, Tasmania, on the North West coast, taking place each October since 1985. It is a community-focused, fast road event, not a trail or cross-country race. The main 10 km race begins at 10:00 am, with a 5 km race and an 800 m Kids Dash scheduled for later in the morning.
The 10 km course commences on Wilson Street, proceeds south, and then turns onto Bass Highway. It follows a flat out-and-back route on a smooth dual-lane road, concluding with a 550-metre run back to Wilson Street. The course is IAAF-certified and features minimal elevation change. It also serves as the venue for the Australian 10 km Road Running Championships. All participants completing the race are awarded commemorative medallions. Prize money is distributed equally between men and women. The event attracts both local families and competitive runners, including Tasmanian Stewart McSweyn, who has won the Burnie 10 twice and previously held the course record.
