The Great Pyramid Race 2026

SAT, August 1, 2026 · Gordonvale , Australia

About this race

The Great Pyramid Race is an annual mountain running event in Gordonvale, south of Cairns in North Queensland. The main race takes runners up Walsh's Pyramid, a 922-metre natural pyramid-shaped mountain recognized as the highest freestanding natural pyramid globally, and then back down. The 12km event is more than a road run; competitors face a steep uphill scramble, rough terrain, and a controlled descent requiring strong legs and clear decision-making. The day also features shorter, more accessible races, catering to various abilities. Options include a half pyramid race, a race to the base, a 3km cross-country race, an 1800m juniors race, a Dash for Cash, and charity-linked events like the Kick On Charity Fun Run and FNQ Legacy Charity Race. Participants and spectators from North Queensland and beyond gather, with crowds numbering in the thousands. The race day fosters a strong community atmosphere, with family activities and long-standing local traditions centered on the mountain challenge.
