The Lion Chase begins at Best's Wines Great Western and concludes at the Great Western Hotel, embodying its name as a winery-to-pub run through Great Western. This yearly community event offers three distances, ranging from 2.5km to 13km, accommodating walkers, families, young children, casual runners, and those seeking a longer challenge. The courses traverse mixed terrain and country roads, finishing in the town centre adjacent to the hotel. The Great Western Football Netball Club Lions are the organizers, with proceeds benefiting junior football and netball players via training dinners, registrations, memberships, and professional development. Post-run, participants can gather at the Great Western Hotel for food and local wine, lending the event a community fundraiser atmosphere rather than a formal race production.
