The Cut Ultra Marathon is a lap-based trail race in Nerang, centered on the question of how long each runner can endure. It's described as "the ultra for those who have no interest in running an ultra," acknowledging that not everyone progresses far enough for the day to become a true ultra. From lap seven, runners deemed unsafe are withdrawn at the end of each lap, making the race as much about staying ahead of the cut-off as it is about covering distance.
The repetitive laps create an exposed format: participants return to the same pressure point repeatedly, without a quiet section where the field can disperse. The winner is the first runner to cross the line after the final lap. The event also features a Junior Cut and a women's race within the main format, with distinct men's and women's cut-offs later on. Near Halloween, the Halloween Hustle offers a twilight and night trail run for the broader community.
