About this race

Loonie Loops directs runners and hikers around the same 3.1 km trail loop at Ashburn Lake in Saint John, New Brunswick, for 6, 12, or 24 hours. The format is straightforward: continue moving for your selected duration and complete as many laps as possible. It is New Brunswick's first 24-hour trail race, but the shorter options accommodate individuals seeking a long trail day without committing to the full 24 hours. Each lap features approximately 90 meters of elevation gain on moderately technical trails, so the small loop accumulates quickly. The route passes a lookout offering views over the lake and islands. On-site camping is available the night before for a nominal fee, with camping proceeds benefiting the YMCA. Ten dollars from each entry also supports the YMCA Strong Communities Fund. The event names reflect the local theme: the 6-hour event is The Walloon 6hrs, the 12-hour race is The Guinea Duck 12hrs, and the 24-hour race is The Hell-Diver 24hrs. A team option, the Three is Key Challenge, involves one runner for each distance; each runner completes their own race, and the team's total laps are tallied after the 24-hour race concludes.
