Running: Locals run Harbour Passage Trail for waterfront rhythm, then cut into Rockwood Park when they want dirt and hills. Rockwood Park gives runners 890 hectares, and the city’s running feels like waterfront pathways, massive parks, and a scenic handful of historic city streets. The most popular Rockwood Park route starts at the parking lot on Sandy Point Road. Saint John Trail Running (SJTR) keeps the trail scene moving with weekly scheduled group runs and pop-up runs. The Women’s Run meets Mondays at 6:30pm. The All Welcome run meets Wednesdays at 6:30pm. Rompin' Rockwood, East Coast Beast Coast, Port City Beer Run, and Run for Renee 5km sit on the local anchor list.
Cycling: Locals ride a mix of dedicated bike lanes, shared lanes, and off-road trails, so the week can be Z2 road miles, gravel, or singletrack. The ride from the UNB Saint John campus and Regional Hospital area to uptown Saint John is 5 km. Rockwood Park gives riders 60 km of trails and a Mountain Bike Skills Park. Saint John Cycling promotes community based cycling social connections and activities. The Kingston Peninsula loop runs approximately 65 kilometers on Route 845. The GB-W Marathon route brings 40 km with 489 m ascent, so the climbs are real.
Season: May to November gives Saint John its best training block, and that stretch carries the local race rhythm from 5km to ultra efforts. Summer brings the good coastal choice, because the Fundy coast stays cooler on hot days and makes the east ride toward St. Martins feel right. Martins feel right. Locals use Rockwood Park laps when energy decides the day, and Irving Nature Park gives a seven kilometre road around the park. Winter changes both sports by pulling the focus away from the May-to-November race calendar. Runners still have SJTR group runs and pop-ups, and riders lean on the same city mix when conditions allow.
