Toronto Carnival Run

The Toronto Carnival Run is a Caribbean Carnival-themed run/walk in Toronto's west end, held at Sir Casimir Gzowski Park on Lake Shore Boulevard West. It typically takes place in late July and includes 1K, 5K, and 10K distances, accommodating families, walkers, and runners in the same morning. The course follows an out-and-back route on the Martin Goodman Trail, staying near the waterfront rather than going through city streets. A 1K Kids Run is available for ages 4 to 12. Participants receive chip-timed bibs, finisher medals, race swag (while supplies last), and baggage check. A virtual option with mailed race kits is also offered. The Simunye Foundation organizes the event, incorporating fundraising to provide a community purpose alongside the Carnival theme.

UNFINISHED Series

Every hour at UNFINISHED, runners begin a 6.71 km loop, returning to the same hub to rest, eat, reset, and decide their next move. The series takes place at Woodbine Beach Park on Lake Shore Boulevard East in Toronto. Its September event adapts the backyard ultra concept for an urban environment. The core structure is straightforward: run, recover, repeat. The main Backyard Ultra format has participants run one loop each hour until one runner remains or the final Yard is reached; this can be done solo or as a team. A 15-hour Endurance format allows runners to cover maximum distance at their own pace without eliminations. Relay teams of up to eight people and a single-loop Sunshine Yard for a community-focused run are also available. The event emphasizes charity and participation, supporting partners like Trans Canada Trail and Sinai Health Foundation. Spectators and volunteers have a defined role, as all participants return to the same central area.

It is a full 42.2 km marathon, distinct from shorter city runs, and its character is closely linked to Toronto’s waterfront and downtown running events. The available information does not provide a detailed street-by-street course map, but it highlights a substantial charity program associated with the race. The fundraising goal is CA$2 million, supported by numerous participating organizations. These include Action Against Hunger Canada, ALS Society of Canada, Alzheimer Society of Toronto, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto, CAMH Foundation, Daily Bread Food Bank, Diabetes Canada, Doctors Without Borders Canada, and various other groups focused on disease, disability, food security, children's welfare, and community support.

About cycling & running in Toronto

Toronto Training Notes

Running: Toronto has better options than most runners realize. Locals use the 56km Martin Goodman Trail for flat Z2, winter base miles, and long runs with zero navigating. Liberty Village and King West runners reach lake access in five minutes. High Park gives you 400 acres, forest trails, Grenadier Pond, and south-end hills for repeats. The Kay Gardner Beltline Trail gives tempo work a 9km uninterrupted line with no traffic lights. Toronto Trail Runners hit Edwards Gardens, Sunnybrook Park, and Serena Gundy Park. Portland Runners Toronto, Queer Run Club, Small World Run Club, and Front Runners Toronto keep Saturdays busy. Sporting Life 10K, Toronto Waterfront 10K, and Waterfront Marathon anchor the calendar.

Cycling: Toronto riders use the Martin Goodman Trail, Great Lakes Waterfront Trail, Humber River Trail, Don River Trail, and Finch Corridor Trail for steady city miles. TBN runs urban and rural rides on paved paths and roads, with fast country rides on rolling hills outside the city. Dark Horse Flyers Cycling Club keeps downtown riding social, organized by ability, and good for post-ride route talk. East York and Scarborough give casual gravel, while Guelph and Hamilton pull riders toward bigger days. 8km. 6km. Cyclon 2026 sits as the anchor event for TBN riders.

Season: Spring and fall give Toronto the cleanest training rhythm, with milder temps and fewer crowds. Summer gives long daylight, warm humid rides, and lake breezes that help when the city feels hot. The waterfront gets crowded by 9am on weekends, so locals start early for intervals or long Z2. The ravines and High Park stay much cooler in July and August. Winter changes the plan from November to April, when temperatures often sit around -5 to +2C. The Martin Goodman Trail becomes the reliable run option after snow. Cyclists keep an eye on slush, frozen ruts, and streetcar tracks, with January and February usually the hardest months.
