Honda Waterfront Run Barrie

The Honda Waterfront Run Barrie begins and ends near Heritage Park on Simcoe Street in Barrie, Ontario. The event starts at 8:00 a.m. in early June. This road race, presented by Honda, offers a half marathon, 10K, 5K, a 5K stroller division, and a kids’ fun run. The day is designed for those seeking a longer distance and families wanting a shorter course. Registration includes a finisher’s medal, complimentary race photos, a pre-race warm-up, post-race food, and age-group awards for the 39-and-under and 40-and-over categories for each distance. The course follows Barrie’s waterfront. Runners should anticipate sections with two-way traffic and some areas where vehicles might still be present. Strollers are permitted only in the designated 5K stroller event. Service dogs may participate with prior notification to the race director; other pets are not allowed on the course. The race supports Autism Ontario, Hospice Simcoe - Seasons Centre, and Bridget’s Bunnies. Race kits can be picked up locally the day before the event at Barrie By The Bay, and on race morning near Simcoe Street. Another person can collect a kit using the runner’s confirmation email and bib number.

Hardwood Wednesday Night Weekly MTB Series

The Hardwood Wednesday Night Weekly MTB Series is a weekly mountain bike race at Hardwood Ski and Bike in Oro Station, Ontario. It takes place on Wednesday evenings from early May until late August. Racing is open to beginners, experienced club riders, and elite riders. The age range is unusually wide, from very young children to riders in their eighties, making the series function more like a weekly riding community than a single-category competition. Riders select their course each week, allowing the same night to accommodate different abilities and objectives. The venue is located at 402 Old Barrie Road West. The event is listed on Ontario Cycling's calendar as part of both the King Race MTB Series and the Ciociaro Race Series. The organizer maintains a casual atmosphere: ride your bike, meet people, and pursue prizes if that adds to the enjoyment.

About cycling & running in Barrie

Barrie Base Miles By The Bay

Running: Locals run the waterfront when they want steady base miles beside Kempenfelt Bay. Centennial Park Barrie Waterfront gives the Honda Waterfront Run Barrie its anchor feel, and Johnson's Beach, Minet's Point Beach, Tyndale Beach, Centennial Beach, and Sunnidale Park all sit in the regular rotation. The route covers 18 km and gains 119 m, so it works when a long run needs some bite. The route covers 68 km with 113 m of gain. That route covers 9 km and 65 m of gain. Rainbow Trail Run 2026 pulls trail legs to Earl Rowe Provincial Park.

Cycling: Locals ride Barrie Cycling Club when they want a real group wheel. BCC runs Tuesday Evening Rides from Sunnidale Park at 6:00 pm, Wednesday Learn to Group Ride from the 1st Line of Oro Rail Trail Parking Lot, Thursday Sunrise Ride from Johnson's Beach at 6:00 am, Saturday Gravel Ride from Sunnidale Park, and Sunday Social Coffee Ride. The Simcoe County Loop Trail gives 160 km of mostly off-road rail-trail, with Barrie to Orillia landing around 35-40 km. The Simcoe County Loop Trail has 1 km and 330 m of gain. The climbs sit north and south, where the valley slopes get rather steep.

Season: June and August bring the best riding months, and locals stack Z2, gravel, and gran fondo prep when the days run long. Summer in Barrie feels warm, sometimes hot and humid, and thunderstorms are common because the city sits in a Great Lakes breeze convergence zone. The waterfront stays useful for runners, while the road groups stretch pace from social to average pace 34 km/h+. Winter changes the job. Barrie sits in a snowbelt, so cold weeks, frequent snowfall, and November-to-January snow squalls push runners toward tougher footing and cyclists toward patience, indoor work, or cyclocross grit when the route allows.
