Legs for Literacy
SUN OCT 4
Legs for Literacy is an October road-race weekend in Moncton, New Brunswick. The marathon starts and finishes on Main Street in the city’s downtown. The same race day also offers a half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, relay, and youth events. A Family Fun Run is held on the Saturday before the main races. The marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier, and half marathon results can count toward New York City Marathon qualification. The field includes serious time-chasers as well as local runners and families. The event began with 5 km and 10 km races, then added the half marathon and marathon as it grew. It raises money for literacy projects in the community and commonly hosts New Brunswick championship races for the marathon and half marathon distances.
2026 Poley Peak Pursuit
SAT OCT 10
Poley Peak Pursuit is an October trail race at Poley Mountain Resorts in Waterford, New Brunswick, starting at 11:00 AM Atlantic time. Runners can choose between a 5 km route and a 13 km route, suitable for first-time mountain runners and those seeking a more challenging climb. This is the race's third annual edition, and all participants require a hike/run ticket for Poley Mountain. The 5 km course is a loop on single-track trails. The 13 km race includes a final climb up The Chute before the finish. Registration provides access to Poley Mountain's Fall Festival, featuring post-run vendors and chairlift rides, a summit aid station, a swag bag, and a $5 charity donation. Bib and distance transfers are permitted until registration closes; refunds and deferrals are not available, and pets are not allowed in the race.

About 5K races in Moncton

Moncton Training Notes

Moncton hosts 6 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run the Petitcodiac River side first, with Bore Park and the Downtown route giving easy base miles from The Running Room at 300 Main St. The University route gives 10K when you want a simple loop, and the Hypothermic Half route starts in Dieppe when the long run needs shape. The Hypothermic Half route covers 72 km and gains +174 m, so it is not just filler. 10 km. Legs for Literacy, the 5k Tartan Run, and the 2026 Solstice 5K are the anchor events locals know.

Locals ride a lot of river-valley connectors, because Moncton has 213 cycle routes and plenty of ways to stack Z2. Bore City Rippers give the Greater Moncton scene its club name. The route covers 4 km and climbs 156 m. Grand Trunk Street to Lester Avenue brings the sharper work, because it climbs 329 m over 14 km. Lutes Mountain sits north of town, and the Caledonia Highlands sit south when the legs want real climbing. Mastodon Rumbler and 2026 Poley Peak Pursuit sit on the calendar.

July and August are the clean pick for riding, with warm days, sometimes real heat, and highs that can push past 30°C. Runners still get good work done, but locals shift intervals earlier and keep long Z2 runs near the river when the humidity shows up. Winter days are cold but often sunny, and big systems can drop 20-30 cm of snow. The riverfront trail is mostly plowed, so running keeps rolling. Road riding changes fast, and I do not routinely ride on the road here in winter. Studded tires and secondary streets become the practical setup.
