About this race
Each September, the Kassel Marathon weekend takes place in Kassel, northern Hesse. The marathon begins on Damaschkestraße near the Auestadion, concluding within the stadium grounds. This event has been held annually since 2007, now attracting close to 10,000 runners and around 70,000 spectators. Beyond the 42.2 km race, the schedule features a half marathon, relay, children’s races, an 8 km walk, a mini-marathon, handbike half marathon, and power-walking half marathon. Club membership is not required to enter the marathon; participants are assigned start blocks based on their anticipated finish time.
The marathon course consists of two loops through Kassel, following the Fulda River and passing city landmarks before returning to the Auestadion. The route is noted for being very flat, though not entirely without effort. Marathon participants have a 6-hour time limit. Aid stations are available starting at kilometer 5. Timing is managed by a small EasyChip transponder attached to the shoelace, which runners may keep after the race. The weekend commences with a Bambini run, followed by a breakfast run, a walking event, and a mini-marathon, leading up to Sunday's races for handbikers, half marathoners, marathoners, and four-person relay teams.
