About this race
The Fichtelgebirgsmarathon is a demanding trail run held at the Schlossterrassen in Bad Alexandersbad, within Germany’s Fichtelgebirge region. Participants can select a marathon, half marathon, or 10k distance, attracting a range of runners from seasoned marathoners prepared for mountain terrain to those seeking a shorter forest run. This event stands as the Fichtelgebirge's largest running competition, with the full marathon course featuring approximately 800 meters of elevation gain.
The courses primarily follow unpaved forest roads and hiking paths, offering expansive vistas over the Fichtelgebirge, interspersed with challenging ascents. For over two decades, the event has been organized by volunteers and sport-oriented members of IfL-Fichtelgebirge, contributing to its atmosphere as a local club event rather than a commercial race. As one participant described it, the race is exceptionally difficult but rewarding because of the scenery and the event's structure.
