About this race
The MRRC Silvesterlauf München guides runners through Munich’s Olympiapark on New Year’s Eve. The Kleine Olympiahalle serves as the central point for bib collection, awards, the start, and the finish. This event, organized by the Munich RoadRunners Club, is a community race day featuring multiple distances. The program includes a 500-meter children’s race, a two-kilometer school race, a five-kilometer run, and a ten-kilometer road and fun run.
The ten-kilometer race is officially measured, allowing serious runners to use it for rankings. The event can accommodate up to 4,000 participants, with previous editions selling out around 3,000 entries.
The course is contained within the winter Olympiapark, with the start and finish located near the Kleine Olympiahalle. Munich clubs and running communities compete in the Munich Community Clash Championship, where the fastest three ten-kilometer runners from each team are ranked by their combined net time. The event includes local traditions: Feldmoching cannon shooters start the races, Peter Maisenbacher and Maresa Bredl host the day, and all finishers get the Silvesterlauf mug, which can be filled with tea or water post-race. A commemorative medal and anniversary shirt are also available to order around the event's fortieth edition.
