About this race
The Kienberglauf begins and ends at the SV08 Oehrenstock sports field in Ilmenau-Oehrenstock. Runners immediately enter forest trails near the Rennsteig. This trail and landscape running event occurs annually on the last Sunday in September. Race distances include 2 km, 5 km, 11 km, and 16 km. Nordic Walking is also available over 11 km and 16 km. Children's and youth races are included, making the day suitable for local families and adult runners.
The courses circle Oehrenstock in the Thuringian Forest, ascending towards the Rennsteig and reaching it at Dreiherrenstein, a location also connected to the Rennsteiglauf. From Dreiherrenstein, the longer routes loop back to Oehrenstock via scenic paths. Even the shorter 2 km and 5 km races are characterized as challenging, not simply flat fun runs. The sports field provides a central hub for the event, offering showers, changing rooms, a festival tent, and food services at the start and finish. For SV08 Oehrenstock, the Kienberglauf represents a significant occasion in their club calendar.
