About this race
A cannon blast, fired by a local firecracker club in proper style, begins the Internationaler Silvesterlauf rund um die Thülsfelder Talsperre. This New Year's Eve run circles the Thülsfelder Talsperre reservoir near Dwergte in Lower Saxony. Organized by SV Molbergen, it has been held since 1975. For many runners, it marks the final run of the year, with results still counting in official rankings, making it more than a casual jog.
The main route features a ten-kilometer race, and recent fields have been large enough to cause congestion at the start. Participants attend for the atmosphere as much as for their times, with club runners and local participants sharing the reservoir roads before the day turns toward New Year's Eve. Following the finish, the gathering continues with the race's traditional pea soup, providing a communal conclusion rather than a quick medal-and-depart routine.
