About this race
At Twistesee near Wetterburg in Bad Arolsen, this North Hesse triathlon features lake swimming and a noticeably hilly bike leg. It takes place in September and offers an Olympic-distance race with a 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, and 10 km run, plus a sprint option with 500 m of swimming, 20 km on the bike, and 5 km on foot. The sprint distance can also be raced as a relay, suitable for first-timers, club athletes, and teams who want to split the three sports.
The bike course provides the challenge: the Olympic distance uses two 20 km laps with about 700 m of climbing, while the sprint and relay races ride one lap with about 350 m. VfL Bad Arolsen's triathlon department organizes it, and the field is small enough to feel like a club race rather than a mass event, with expected starts spread across the Olympic, sprint, and relay races. It also connects to the 1st and 2nd Hessian Triathlon Leagues, while maintaining the local Twistesee atmosphere that has supported the event through more than forty editions.
