About this race
The Bornsdorf-Triathlon is a summer triathlon held at the Waldbad Bornsdorf in Heideblick-Bornsdorf, Brandenburg. The pool-side start-and-finish setting is central to the day. It has taken place annually since 1986, organized by the Luckauer Läuferbund, with a participant limit of 244, unlike larger city events. The race offers four distances: an Olympic-style Short-Tri (1.5 km swim, 42-44 km cycle, 10 km run); a Jedermann race (0.75 km swim, 22-23 km cycle, 5 km run); a relay over the Jedermann distance; and a Schnupper option (0.3 km swim, 10-10.9 km cycle, 2.5 km run) for those new to the sport.
The swim is a triangular course within the Waldbad, with each lap at 750 m. The cycling route uses loops from Bornsdorf, including the original paths over Crinitz. The run follows a 2.5 km lap around the lake. The participants range from first-timers to athletes who have competed since the event's inception, leading local reports to describe it as a sporting family reunion. Chief organizer Jorg Rackwitz traditionally hosts the event and provides commentary on participants, informing spectators about their progress through the swim, transitions, cycling, and the final run.
